After a 5-week break, the fifth round of the Motocross World Championship took place in Mantova, Italy. With a recent podium finish at the Dutch Masters of Motocross, D. Pootjes was laser focused heading to Italy. The young Dutchmen always excels at sand tracks and in time practice he clocked in with a 7th in qualifying.
Rain overnight meant that the track was very muddy come race day. In both races, D. Pootjes made it through the first turns in the top 5 and was able to hold his place with a 4th in the first moto. In the second moto, D. Pootjes was in 3rd place after the first lap. The battle for 2nd to 6th was close and towards the end of the race, the battle was down to 3 riders vying for 3rd, 4th, and 5th place. With Davey in 3rd, he slipped in a turn on the penultimate lap and finished 4th. With 2-4 finishes, D. Pottjes took 3rd overall and made it to the podium for the first time in his 4th MXGP race.
